Welcome back to the fly shop fishing report! This weeks report comes with the good news of some lower temps throughout the interior! The previous weeks around Kamloops have been super hot out bringing surface temps up into the mid to degree range which is getting pretty toasty! Luckily some cooler days and rain have cooled lakes down quickly dropping into the more manageable mid 60’s range which has in turn kicked the trout into feeding mode. Most success is still happening early morning and late evening using stable foods like leeches, scuds and dragons. Dragons can be very successful this time of year as they start to make their way to the shallow water reeds to crawl up and hatch out. Try a gomphus or floating style dragon on a fast sinker and slowly crawl them up then drop offs in the evenings for some incredible takes and super fun action! If your out during the day keep an eye out for chironomid hatches as we are in the interior and those can happen anytime but also don’t discount the chironomid larvae in deeper water. We recently had a fantastic day dangling bloodworms in 30ft of water. If you can mark them on your electronics out that deep this time of year they are likely seeking out the larva so tie one on, get it in front of them and hold on!
TIghtlines out there folks!
