Kamloops & Area Fishing Report – August 2 2024

Welcome back to the fly shop fishing report! At the start of the week things were fishing quite well, still riding the cooler weather with lake temps down into the low 60’s again fish were out cruising looking for food. The ole summer staple of hanging staple foods near drops offs proved to be best, with leeches and damsels being the popular bugs. Try to find drops that lead to deep water but that come up onto a shoal, fish like to hang on these kind of drops down deeper where its safe and come up and down grabbing some food off the shoal when they can. If you can present them something in the deeper water they will usually cooperate as it saves them having to go into the warmer shallows.

As the week progressed and things started to heat up again we seen water temps rise back up into the 70 degree range which starts to make things a little tougher, both on us and the fish! When things get this hot and your going to fish its best done early morning and late evening. I had a great evening earlier in the week casting a double float dragon of a gradual drop from shore and slowly bringing it back up getting to feel some absolute savage takes. Dragons on drops are a staple this time of year so give it a try and if you haven’t come down and see us at the shop so we can show ya how and get you set up!  If your heading out for the long weekend, be safe, watch that heat and remember warm water isn’t easy on trout so play them quickly, keep them wet and get them back as soon as you can so they can be enjoyed by others for years to come! Tightlines out there folks!
