Kamloops & Area Fishing Report August 9 2024

Welcome back to the fly shop fishing report! This weeks report comes with some good news for chironomid fisherman, the Tunkwa Bombers have arrived! We spent a couple days on the long weekend fishing Tunkwa and were greeting by hungry trout chasing large bomber chironomids! Such a fun couple of days watching the bobber go down! Fishing in 17ft of water and suspending flies within a few feet of the bottom was best. When they went off the bomber crons they were still taking chironomid larvae at similar depths but when you fish the larvae try to get it as close to the bottom as possible! Water temps were in the high 60’s over the weekend so play your fish fast, keep em wet and get them back quick if you can.

Other reports that came in were mostly of lakes above 4000ft with lots of folks trying to beat the heat, those lakes had similar water temperature’s in the mid to upper 60’s range and didn’t have much for hatches happening so the staple foods seem to be coming out on top. Much like last week, Dragonfly nymphs have been doing well, crawling the smaller dragons or stripping the larger ones up drops has been very effective. If your stripping dragons you might want to consider the new Scientific Anglers sink 5/7 line as its an incredible line for bringing flies up drops offs and is fantastic for fishing floating dragon patterns.

Early morning and late evening sessions have been great on some local waters as well, fish have to eat and when most of the food is in shallow water that means they will wait for the optimum time to go in there and feed which is typically night time but you can catch them coming in late evenings and early mornings. Small leeches and shrimp patterns will be your best bet here, either suspended under an indicator or stripped on a slow sinker, fish will be active in these times so if your stuck at work during the day don’t worry because the fishing will be much better when your done anyway! Have a great weekend if your headed out and remember to be safe, play them fast, keep them wet and get them back as soon as possible so they can keep growing and give someone else the same thrill they gave you! Cheers folks!🔴⬇️
